Here and back again......

I am less than 84 days from landing at Amman, Jordan and begin my travels in Israel. To start I am becoming very good friends with Cindy B......she will be my roommate and we are already finishing each others sentences. She is an amazing lady. I am very grateful for this new and special relationship. I have been reading historical books (Cindy has given me)and some fictional to understand and feel the people I will soon meet and their surroundings. If anyone has a suggestion..please share. I am also trying to add to my exercise and diet to be in good health and shape for the days of walking. Then there is the mundane stuff, like finding light and yet expandable luggage. Again suggestions are welcomed. I am grinning ear to ear as I type. I haven't been this excited in quite awhile. Shalom to you all...Lisa

  1. I am here on our bus writing this blog. This has been the first time that I could access the WiFi to do this since we arrived. The WiFi was nonexistent while we were in Jordan. We landed after a 4 hour delay..disabled plane that required a change in planes to finish our fligth into Amman. Jordan shows significant evidence of being under a war time economy. Reminded all of us of Mexico. The people are friendly and the children are beautiful but we saw abject poverty and apathy everywhere. The food is varied and spicy..very vegan. our tour guide is a Palestinian Christian, the driver a Muslim. A strange mix in light of our group's religious beliefs. We are getting a little of the political messages they would like us to believe which is then countermanded by Jews we meet. it's a complicated issue. I was glad for the experience but grateful for my birthplace. Then we went into the West Bank. Where I saw Jewish and Palestinian settlements, gun turrets, and armed military. Depressing...but enlightening. Our group have been drawn to pray for all that are at the center of this conflict.Last night we arrived in Jerusalem. Beautiful. Some us were too wired to sleep so we walked the city to the old wall for 2 hours and discovered historical sites such as the stations of the cross, the old temple site, and shops everywhere. Today we head to the Dead Sea..ShLom for now. Lisa
